York Lodge – Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few questions we are often asked – we hope these answers are helpful, but if your question isn’t listed here or if there’s anything you’re unsure about just give us a call.

Q: Will I be able to make choices about my daily routine?

Yes. This is very much encouraged; this is your home, and we want you to be happy and comfortable. More than that, however, it is your right to choose when to go to bed and get up, which clothes to wear, whether to eat with others or have meals served in your room, whether to socialise or take part in activities etc.

Q: Can York Lodge meet my dietary needs?

Yes. We cater for all dietary requirements and preferences. There is a wide choice of food on offer, and you can choose when and where you would like to eat. We work closely with speech and language therapists, nutritionists and GPs to ensure the correct diet is available for you.

Q: Will my views be listened to?

Absolutely, at all times. We actively encourage feedback, suggestions or concerns. We value your input, and the management has an open-door policy in this regard. We regularly seek quality assurance feedback on an individual basis, from both residents and their relatives.

Q: Are there any restrictions on visiting times?

No. Authorised family and friends will have unrestricted access via our biometric (fingerprint) entry system. If your visitors are travelling longer distances it may be advisable for them to phone prior to setting off just to make sure you are at home, and not out on a trip. You may receive visitors in your room or in any of the communal areas and your visitors are welcome to join us at meal times.

Q: Are there facilities for visitors to stay overnight?

No, there is no general facility for this however emergency facilities can be made available.

Q: May I bring personal items and furniture from home?

Yes, we actively encourage you to do this.

Q: Can I bring my pet with me?

We are very animal-friendly at York Lodge! We understand how important pets are to people’s wellbeing, and your furry friends can move in with you by individual arrangement. We can arrange for volunteers to walk your dog, if you would find this difficult yourself. Your family and friends are also welcome to bring family pets with them when they visit you.

Q: Will my religious or cultural needs be met?

We are inclusive and person-centred, and respect all religious beliefs and cultural preferences.

Q: Will there be any interesting activities?

Many! We have a dedicated Activities and Wellbeing Co-ordinator who arranges a wide choice of trips, visits and home-based activities for you to choose from. She will talk to you about your interests and help you to choose what you would most enjoy.

Q: How will my stay at York Lodge be funded?

This will depend on your financial circumstances. Some of our residents are funded entirely by their local authority, some are partly funded with residents’ families contributing the remainder, and some are privately funded. If you would like to understand the matter of funding in more detail, Alan at York Lodge would be happy to discuss this with you in confidence.

Q: What will happen if my needs change or increase?

Once you are happy and settled with us, we are committed to helping you stay that way within your new home. We will only recommend a move if it is considered by us and other professionals to be in your best interests.
